108 Sun Salutations? Yes Please! – By Lauren McLaren

Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga > Yoga > 108 Sun Salutations? Yes Please! – By Lauren McLaren

This past weekend gave us a full helping of summer specials. We enjoyed the biggest Super Moon of the year; we also enjoyed the longest day of the year, marking our transition into summer; and, in honor of the Summer Solstice, we practiced 108 Sun Salutations.

Jai Bhagwan to all the yogis who came out to participate in this ancient tradition of honoring the twin suns of our existence – the big one in the sky that gives light and life, and the more personal inner light of our own beings. I and my fellow teachers want to thank you for your enthusiasm, your dedication, and the amazing energy you rained down on us during the event. This practice was hard work, and it was incredible to see so many people complete all 108 rounds. It was equally remarkable to watch the compassionate awareness that filled the room as people chose to take breaks and honor the body instead of the ego!

The day was one of light and laughter. We heard so many positive comments that it would be impossible to print them all, but here are a few highlights:

“There was a point when I thought ‘I’ll be doing this for the rest of my life. It’s never going to end.’ But now that it’s over, I feel incredible.”
“It was so gratifying to complete something that seemed so intimidating.”
“I really didn’t think I’d be able to do 108 Chaturungas, but I did.”
“I can’t wait for the next one.”

For those of you who couldn’t be with us this time, read on for a few reasons why you might want to consider joining us for the Winter Solstice practice.
