Our relationship with Water by Lena Schmidt
Each week we’ll be exploring our relationship to and with the elements in Yoga 1 on
Wednesday mornings at 8am-9am in North Park. See you on the mat!
Water energy is related to fluidity, movement, harmony, relationships, emotions,
compassion, awareness, and empathy. When we are at harmony with the Water
element we feel able to flow easily with the rhythms of life. Practice gratitude for all
Water provides. Connect to the Water:
On your mat:
• Practice smooth transitions between poses
• Practice hip opening postures such as Crescent Lunge, Warrior 2, Pigeon, Figure-
Four, Goddess, and Reclined Bound Angle
• Work with Ujjayi Pranayama (oceanic, audible breathing)
• Notice what emotions arise as you move through the asanas
• Connect to the Sacral/Svadisthana Chakra and wear the color orange
Off your mat:
• Connect with the Water by immersing yourself
• Take a cleansing bath or shower
• Drink more water!
• Put your feet in the Pacific (or be brave…jump right on in!)
• Buy a reusable water bottle. Use it!
• Donate to a water conservation organization
• Water your garden in the early morning or late evening
• Turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth
• Practice “going with the flow” and see where it takes you
Think about: When do you feel “in the flow”? (Hint: do that more!)
