Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga > Upcoming Workshops & Events

with Kelly Derouin

Date: Saturday, April 4, 2020      Time: 1:30 - 3:30p
Location: North Park - Sky Room

Hip-opening postures can feel like a wonderful release, or a pain in the butt (literally)! But whether you love or despise them, this workshop is for you. Because the hips function as a bridge between the upper and lower body, unlocking the hips can promote greater ease and fluidity in the joints and muscles both above and below. In this workshop you will learn how to cultivate a sense of relaxation and openness on and off the yoga mat by working steadily, but compassionately, with the hips while practicing the art of going easily with the flow of your life.

In this 2-hour workshop, you will:

  • Practice a sequence of postures that will access deep stretch in order to release tension in all facets of the hip joints.
  • Learn about the anatomy of the hips, pelvis and lower body to gain a better understanding of the groups of bones and muscles involved in hip-opening postures.
  • Experience Yang (active stretch) and Yin (passive stretch) hip-openers.
  • Learn about the subtle anatomy of the hips from a yoga perspective, including exploration of the 2nd chakra.
  • Learn adaptations and modifications for the most common hip-opening poses to stay safe in class and in your home practice.

$25 if registered by March 28, $30 after.

Please join us in San Diego for a beautiful and inspiring journey with the Cacao plant on April 26th. Cacao is the fruit that chocolate comes from and has been understood as a sacred food and used ceremoniously throughout Mesoamerica in Mayan, Aztec and Olmec traditions since 600BC. Today, cacao is hailed as a "superfood" for its nutritional benefits -  it is high in antioxidants and magnesium levels. However, the rest of the world is also waking up to the deeper, energetic benefits of cacao: Cacao is a plant medicine that helps us connect deeply to our own inner wisdom, to one another, and to the rhythms of nature. It is the medicine of connection. When activated through breathwork and intentional ritual, cacao has been known to help move stagnant energy or blocked emotions caused by trauma, inspire creativity and new ideas, open the heart to love, promote joy and assist in clarity. It is a non-psychoactive substance and the experience is completely sober.

In this ceremony, we drink cacao in a warm, liquid form (similar to a bitter hot chocolate). What follows after are two and a half hours of breathwork, stretching, oracle cards, qi gong, conversation and a soothing soundbath with gong, crystal bowls, chimes, and vocal channeling.  This is a healing and revitalizing ceremony and a magical community experience.

About the Facilitator: Sonia Kreitzer is an internationally touring singer, songwriter and soundhealer, releasing music as “Doe Paoro.” She has toured with the Gipsy Kings and been featured on NPR and BBC. She is also a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher and it was her desire to study yoga more seriously that led her to India in 2011. While in India, she discovered the Tibetan music tradition and began studying Tibetan Opera singing. The ancient Tibetan tradition opened up her voice in an unprecedented way and led her on a path of exploring different traditions that use music as a medicine. She now travels all over the world, sharing her songs and leading cacao ceremonies, soundbaths and group meditations, sharing her belief in community processing and music as a pathway to collective healing.

Join Jessica for an afternoon of rest and relaxation. In this restorative workshop we will emphasize conscious deep relaxation in each pose. We will deliberately slow down and use breath to reduce stress and take an internal retreat. While being fully supported with props you will be in a position to receive energy in rejuvenating postures and find deep relaxation. The focus is less on stretching the muscles and more on releasing tension. A great class for beginners and regular practitioners alike. Please bring water bottle, yoga mat, and anything else to assist you in facilitating deep comfort for yourself.

In this workshop, we will restore balance, elevate our joy, and release what no longer serves us by blending the qualities and symbolism of each chakra (energy center) with specific asanas (poses). Each chakra relates to different aspects of ourselves.

As a community we will flow through this workshop accompanied by specific breathing techniques for the season, guided visualizations, chanting, and percussive sound played by Nicole. We'll fine tune and elevate ourselves as well as others in our shared sacred space.

Bring your mat, water bottle, journal and anything important to you to charge and energize on our community altar.

Arrive prepared to learn, journey & receive.
